Job description
The African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS) is a multi-
disciplinary network of researchers, private sector actors and policy
makers promoting innovative science and technology policy making
through research, dialogue and advocacy in 23 African countries
Major duties:
1. Organization and undertaking fieldwork as required on case studies
research carried out by the Secretariat;
2. Assist in developing of proposals and raising funds for the
projects/programmes and managing the grants process and regional
research projects;
3. Keeping up to date with developments in Science ,Technology and
innovation policy issues, as well as qualitative and quantitative
research methods;
4. Collect and search for national and international literature on
relevant science and technology policies and practices;
5. Write papers on Science and technology issues that are relevant and
of interest to ATPS.This shall include papers on Research and findings
as part of its policy advocacy campaigns;
6. Assist in organizing meetings, workshops, seminars etc for the
organization;
7. Identifying and sourcing a wide range of information, as required,
including collection of data through surveys, interviews, focus
groups, expert panels etc;
8. Analysis of data with reference to the research objectives;
9. Maintenance of accurate files and records, both computerized and
manual;
10. Working in close partnership with external research contractors,
policy makers and other stakeholders during the course of the research;
11. Participation in dissemination and training workshops as assigned;
12. Participation in preparatory and plenary workshops as assigned;
13. Assist with the further development of the electronic Grants
Management System;
14. Performance of any other duties associated with the research
project, of an occasional nature, which may be assigned by the
supervisor;
15. Responding to external and internal research enquiries from
colleagues, policy makers, academics, regional development agencies
and members of the public;
16. Any other duties that may be assigned by the team leader
Required skills and qualifications
1. A doctorate or masters degree in Science ,Technology and Innovation
related subjects
2. Strong interpersonal skills , a good team player and strong
analytical skills
3. Excellent research and IT skills
4. Ability to work with minimal supervision
5. Ability to work on a number of complex multidisciplinary research
projects simultaneously
6. At least 2 years relevant experience. Experience in environmental
sciences including climate change will be a major advantage
7. Proficiency in French will be an advantage
