G&D News No 76, 15 October 2008
G&D is proud to announce its new working paper ‘Successful Women,
Successful Science’ focused on ‘what works’, and how to make successes
happen more often, in more places…
In late 2007, G&D’s Successful Women, Successful Science conference
was held at the Bellagio Study and Conference Center in Italy, thanks
to support from The Rockefeller Foundation.
Recognizing that stories of success can be both inspirational and
contagious, G&D prepared 11 case studies of successful programs and
the women who lead them. Each presents a personal story of how women
became involved in the issues of women in science and how they managed
to achieve success.
Featured stories include:
· Nancy Hopkins, Massachusetts Institute of Technology
Committee on Women Faculty
· Kaiser Jamil, Third World Organization for Women in Science
· Tatiana Deane de Abreu Sa, Embrapa
· Jennifer Campbell, LÓreal-UNESCO for Women in Science Program
· Shirley Malcom and Yolanda George, American Association for
the Advancement of Science
· Thelma Paris, International Rice Research Institute
· And more.
Successful Women, Successful Science examines myth versus reality of
issues surrounding the global debate on women in science, and
concludes with a practical list of recommendations for bringing out
more success within our organizations.
